FAQ

We will treat your pet as one of our own.

Why should I choose Aquamation?

In addition to the reduced environmental impact, we believe you should have options. For many, the idea of a flame or fire-based process is not comforting. Choosing your pet's aftercare is a personal decision and we're here to answer any questions to help make your decision easier during this difficult time.

What is the impact of the water usage?

Very low. The Aquamation process for your pet will use the equivalent of two to three pet baths. This includes all of the water used for the process and clean water rinses.

What happens to the water?

All of the water is returned to the ecosystem through the local sanitation system which cleans the water prior to recycling it to land. The pH balanced, mineral-rich water is actually beneficial to the sanitation system.

What is in the water?

During Aquamation, organic materials are reduced to their most basic building blocks. There is no DNA or RNA remaining and the solution is pathogen and drug-free. Even chemotherapy agents are broken down. The end solution consists of 96% water and 4% amino acids, sugars, nutrients, salts and soap. Remember, our bodies are 65% water to begin with.

What about the alkali used in the process?

Our water-based process uses a solution of 95% water and 5% alkali (potassium hydroxide). The same alkalis are used in common cosmetic products, body washes, shaving creams and even food preparation. They are made with sodium and potassium salts.

At the end of the process, the chemical has been completely consumed, neutralized and no longer remains in the water solution.

Are the powdered ashes safe to handle?

Yes. The remains are sterile and 100% safe. By scientific definition, ash is the inorganic material that remains after all organic matter has been decomposed. Similar to flame cremation, the ash that is returned to the family is simply the mineral that composed the bone: calcium phosphate.

My vet doesn't currently offer Aquamation, can I still use your services?

Absolutely, we'd be honored to assist you. Please contact us to make arrangements for us to pick up your pet or for you to bring them to us. If leaving with your vet, make sure they are aware of your wishes.

I'm a veterinarian how can I offer Aquamation to my clients?

Congratulations on honoring pets and our environment. Your clients will be grateful to have another option. Please contact us directly to learn more.
